 The Riad is almost certainly one of the smallest gay saunas in Paris, but it’s also one of the most down-to-earth.  It was opened back in 2000 by three friends, and the interior is decorated using traditional oriental techniques.  There’s a strong emphasis on a warm welcome to ensure you have a relaxing time, with professional masseurs available to offer treatments including shia-tsu, essential oils and peels.

 On the ground floor, there’s a large TV room with leather armchairs, soft rugs and newspapers and magazines where guests can relax and discuss the day’s events.

 The sauna area itself uses only traditional Eastern tiles, with only a few tasteful additions.  The venue’s main selling point is a very enjoyable hammam finished with ceramic mosaic tiles.  It’s a perfect spot for relaxing, with the sweet smell of eucalyptus filling the air.

The whole place is spotless, with six showers (five warm and one cold) and a pool next to the hammam for cooling off.  The pool might be small, but the hammam is magnificent and very large.

 In the basement, there’s a very hot sauna, with room for no more than six visitors.  The rest of the area is given over to cabins.

 The customer base is very mixed, with all sorts of guys, but the number of visitors can also vary widely: sometimes the place feels empty, but at other times it can be impossible to get a space in the sauna.

 The staff are happy to help and offer a warm welcome.  They serve mint tea, the house speciality, which has to be tried with a few Moroccan pastries.

 The sauna is open from midday through to 1 am every day, and is one of the cheapest in the capital at 16 € for full price, 14 € after 9.30 pm and just 7 € for visitors under the age of 26!

 You won’t find any theme parties at the Riad, but Absolu Living definitely found enough to heartily recommend it to you!

 Today, we’re visiting the IDM sauna, which alongside Sun City, is one of the biggest in Paris.  Tucked away in a passage in the Grands Boulevards area, the complex occupies four floors.  There’s a jacuzzi and hammam in the basement, a gym and changing room on the ground floor and then a maze of forty cabins in the rest of the space.  From Thursday to Sunday, the entire venue is clothes-free, and the IDM is owned by the same people as the Key West, another Paris sauna.

 The person who let us in was both welcoming and discreet, which is particularly welcome for young guys who might be visiting a sauna for the first time.

And, it has to be said, IDM is very popular with younger guys.  Then again, we also found out that it’s pretty quiet after 11 pm every day of the week.  So you need to go early if you want to meet people!  If you do, you’ll find that the other customers are very open-minded and IDM is the venue for some of the capital’s hottest parties—especially when everybody gets naked!  If you don’t believe us, visit their website, which should give you a pretty clear idea.  There are plenty of backrooms with different accessories to encourage you to have fun.

In terms of the basic equipment, the sauna, Jacuzzi and hammam are all nice and warm and perfectly clean, but some of the showers were broken when we visited.  The décor is very nice and doesn’t follow the same eastern influences as so many Paris saunas.

In the sexier areas, lots of the IDM backrooms are themed, with erotic photos on the wall, military-style camouflage netting or graffiti for an underground feel.  Other spaces have slings, glory holes and huge beds.

 This is an expensive sauna: at €15, the entry for an under-26 costs as much as a full-price ticket at Sun City, while everybody else can expect to pay €21.  We’re not sure whether the high prices are justified, because although it’s big, it’s not as big as Sun City and doesn’t have a pool either.  They don’t offer sandals, either.  Last detail: the IDM is open every day from midday to 1 am.

A whole world of well-being in the middle of the Marais

The complex, which occupies some 4 000 square metres (43 000 square feet) over three floors, is open seven days a week.  It includes a huge eastern-style hammam, a sauna, two jacuzzis, a pool, backrooms, video rooms (with adult movies and others) and a gym.  But the most unique feature is the Indian-themed décor, of which there’s sometimes just a little too much: there can be so many kitsch Indian figurines that the whole place ends up looking a little naff in   Sun City really is huge and we often got lost, especially on the maze-like second floor which combines the sauna itself and the backrooms.

Speaking of the sauna, we think it’s too small and feels cramped compared to the other facilities.

 Pool is a big plus

Sun City’s big advantage is the presence of a pool, which can provide a relaxing break from having fun elsewhere.  Not many saunas in Paris have a pool, so it’s a shame that it’s so cold that not many guys actually use it!

 Victim of its own success?

The welcome on offer from the staff is somewhat variable, and depends on who is on duty at reception or behind the bar.  In fact, the huge size of the place and the crowds can sometimes feel cold and impersonal, a bit like you’re in a factory rather than a sauna.  That’s especially true with some customers who know exactly what they’re there for and don’t spend much time trying to get to know anybody else, although that’s more the case at the weekend than during the week.  On the subject of people being socialable, we noticed several customers asleep in the deckchairs by the pool, waiting for the 6 am closing time …

 Lastly, the hygeine could be improved in some places.  Depending on the time of day, the hygeine quality can quickly drop off, and we sometimes got the impression that some of the decoration was chosen to hide the dirt!  We definitely recommend you visit earlier on in the evening rather than towards closing time!  That said, the problems we spotted mostly concern the cruising areas and not the pool or jacuzzi space.

There are also two different parties at the sauna.  The ‘Sexy Arabs’ event takes place on the first and third Wednesday of every month, and includes free massages, henna tatoos and mint tea.  The other party is ‘Bear’s Day’, every second Saturday, which is for hairy guys!

 Sun City might be one of Paris’ biggest saunas, but it’s also one of the most expensive. it costs 19.50 € during the week and 20 € at the weekend.  However, it’s one of the cheapest places to go if you’re young as it’s just 12 € all week long for anybody under 26 .  That means the customer base is pretty young, and there is a very diverse mix of guys, with lots of black and Arab visitors.

 Overall, Sun City is a great bet for youngsters finding their feet in gay Paris or anybody who needs a little bit of space!  The pool is defintely a big advantage, as is the hammam.  Finally, we can only recommend you try to visit on a Wednesday or a Thursday evening so you can avoid some of the hygeine problems that crop up when things get busier.

The first stop on our tour of the French capital is the Atlantide Sauna, near in the gare de Lyon in the city’s 12th arrondissement. It’s a Paris’ friendly Sauna.

An open, tolerant sauna

The Atlantide Sauna spans two floors, and its diverse range of customers enjoy a large hammam, mixed sauna, video rooms, relaxation areas with mirrors and matresses and a bar with free tea and coffee.

The first impression on entering the sauna is the warm welcome: the space might be small, but the customer base is made up of a mixture of regulars and visitors. The staff are very friendly and were happy to show us around the sauna and describe the various facilities.
Customers include people of all sexualities, with gay, bi and trans individuals rub shoulders with couples with respect and tolerance.

The staff are also there to keep the place clean, but maintain a low profile if you’re using one of the cabins or other areas dedicated to sex.

A mixture of relaxation and pleasure with respect and tolerance

The ground floor includes the sauna, the hammam, the showers and some of the cabins, as well as a drinking fountain. Down in the basement, things are more gay, with a dark corridor making it easier to get up close and personal. One of the cabins down here has a sling and the other is equipped with glory holes, but the central cabin is one of the sexiest as it has a two-way mirror allowing anybody sitting in the adjacent cabins to see what you’re up to. For an even hotter time, then a final cabin as a Saint Andrews’ Cross made of solid wood with four leather cuffs to keep you—or your partner—tied down.

We can definitely recommend this as a place for very different people to live out their fantasies.

At 26 € for men and 10 € for women, it’ more expensive than other saunas in Paris, particularly gay saunas, but the difference is part of a deliberate policy to go up market and be open to everybody.

The sauna is open every day from midday to 10 PM, and has a loyalty card meaning your tenth visit is free.

We were bowled over by the politeness and the warm welcome offered by both the staff and other visitors to the Atlantide. We can definitely recommend the Atlantide Sauna as great place to visit for people of any sexuality!
