My Gay Paris: François Sagat, a multifaceted gay porn actor

François Sagat was the main actor of Christophe Honoré’s L’homme au bain (Man at bath). It is an achievement for him. Indeed, you might know François Sagat mainly as a porn star.

He was born in the southwestern part of France and moved to Paris when he was eighteen. His dream was to work in the fashion industry. After two years of studies, he decided to stop working for fashion, because he was disappointed with the lack of opportunities and the difficulty to work in that field. A few years later, the pornographic studio Citébeur contacted him and he performed in his first adult film under the name Azzedine. Since it was a success, he decided to remain in that business. He did a few films with Citébeur, and then had the possibility to take part in a shoot in the US for the porn film Arabesque, reverting to his birth name. He soon became an exclusive porn star for Titan Media. He briefly retired from the porn industry, then came back. He will soon be a director and a producer for Titan media for the film François Sagat’s Incubus, which will be released in two parts, in December 2011 and March 2012.

François Sagat is well-known for his tattoo in shape of a scalp. He collaborated with fashion photographer Terry Richardson and german designer Bernhard Willhelm. L’homme au bain was not his first experience with traditional cinema, since he starred in Saw Vi as a male addict and had the lead role in L.A. Zombie by Bruce LaBruce. Documentaries were made about him. He also took part in different public awareness campaigns, most notably in 2009 for the French gay site Yagg. So do you think that François Sagat is a gay icon? We do!
